About Dr. Austin

Clinical Psychology (adults & children)

Dr. Austin received a Ph.D. in Psychology at the University of Texas in Austin (1960) after a MA in psychology and a Bachelor’s in Business Administration. His clinical training was conducted in the Department of Psychiatry (Psychology Division) at University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas. Post doctoral training included two years at a child psychiatric clinic (Corpus Christi, Texas) and comprehensive training with group psychotherapy and Family Therapy.

He underwent four years of supervision in Child Psychotherapy, pre-and post doctorate, and his practice reflects a strong emphasis on children’s issues. He works with children as young as age 2.

Dr. Austin is a Fellow of the American Group Psychotherapy Association. He is also a Diplomat and Fellow of the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress. His psychotherapy training and experience include most empirically based psychotherapy techniques.

His approach to clinical practice is to have defined goals and a strategy of how to reach them. The therapy status is clarified at all times. Questions are invited. Consistent with ethical practice the patient’s welfare is the top priority.
